Words can hold power
On November 13 and December 7, 2009, one of your classmates blogged about Joseph Kony, a man responsible for kidnapping and forcing into military service 30,000 children in Uganda. Your peer introduced me to the organization Invisible Children. This organization was created by three American men in their early twenties who would work to bring together people from around the world to speak on behalf of these kids who have no voice. I was inspired to sign the petition and donate money to the cause. She and I were both part of the solution. So were 253,512 others. Using their voices and their words, young people convinced Congress to pass a bill TWO DAYS AGO (May 12, 2010) that would help stop Joseph Kony.
For enrichment, read the press release and watch the video on how they did it and the video on the bill. Then, write about what you learned about the power of words to create change.
